Is it really the perfect way to cheat the low-carb diet and stay on ketosis? Did it help me lose weight, stay focused, and get better results in the gym or was it just another fad product?
Some claims are definitely true, but are they worth the downsides? Is it worth the relatively expensive investment? I hope my results help you make a more informed decision. It might be right for you, and it might not be. Read on for my results, success stories, and what Joe Rogan, Pruvit Keto, and fruit have in common.
What is Pruvit Keto-OS?
Pruvit KETO OS (Operating System) is Pruvit’s flagship exogenous ketone supplement containing a patent-pending BHB salt that supposedly helps maintain ketosis and deliver fast results.
Our bodies only naturally produce ketones when in a carb-restricted fasting state.
Exogenous ketones are meant to “trick” the body into thinking it’s in a ketotic state, getting you into ketosis faster (the company claims in as little as 30 minutes!).
It comes in a powder form you can carry with you anywhere you go. Add 12-16oz., shake like a madman, and voila—you’ve got 50ccs of exogenous ketones ready to go down the hatch.
The formula is supposed to mimic the ketones your body naturally produces and either kick you into ketosis or help you stay there (if you’re anything like me, staying ultra-low carb is TOUGH).
But the jury is still out on Pruvit supplements. The company claims that it improves everything from DNA repair (whatever that means) to sharpening your focus, boosting your immune system aside from achieving your weight loss goals.
Let me sum up the benefits for you quickly before sharing my personal experience with each on this Pruvit Keto OS review.
What Are the Benefits of Pruvit Keto//OS?
The blend of MCT oil, mineral salts, BHB, and caffeine (in the “CHARGED” version) delivers a rush of INSTANT ketones to the body. Taking extra ketones is supposed to help boost your body’s natural production.
Pruvit claims that their supplement:
May Help You Get Into Ketosis Faster: I don’t have to tell you how tough it is to get into keto and stay there. We’ve both seen pizza before. Sometimes we need a little help, and the extra kick of ketones may give you the boost you need to get there or provide some extra wiggle room to maintain ketosis. One snack here or some fruit there is enough to slip up, so any extra help at all is a big help to most dieters.
If you aren’t on the ketogenic diet already, it won’t help you. This isn’t a quick fix to your dieting problems. They can merely enhance the ketotic state you achieve through dieting. Don’t listen to marketing.
May Increase Your Fat-Burning Capabilities: Periods of low-carb intake are more effective than low-fat diets for burning those stubborn muffins. Anything that helps you get into ketosis may help you burn fat faster and help melt the pounds away. Exogenous ketones also help suppress appetite, so you won’t be as quick to rush to the kitchen for food. One study showed that hunger decreased 50% in those taking ketone supplements. That will help you get faster results in your weight loss journey. [2]
There’s been no direct study on Pruvit supplements yet, though extra ketones can’t hurt (unless they are high-carb — more on that later).
May Help Fight Off the Keto Flu: Pruvit claims the mix of mineral salts and BHB helps fight the dreaded keto flu. Taking the highway to the keto zone shocks your body and can result in dizziness, fatigue, unpleasant trips to the bathroom, and other side effects. Your body has used carbs its whole life for energy, and changing that relationship is going to rock the boat a bit.
Thankfully, there are ways to help your body with the transition. While there’s some basis to keto supplements fighting off the flu, we recommend supplementing with sodium, potassium, and magnesium (and drink more water!).
Improves Endurance: Even a skeptic like me can’t deny the effects of keto on endurance. High-performance athletes trained harder, longer, and better when on keto. Ketone supplements reduce blood lactic acid and glycogen levels, slowing the buildup of lactic acid and muscle breakdown. This can give you that extra push you need to train longer and harder.
If you’re looking to get faster results in the gym, extra ketones and a caffeine boost can help you achieve great results.
May Improve Brain Health: The effects of a ketogenic diet on brain function are well documented. Keto helps treat epilepsy [5] and improve behavior in kids with neurological disorders (through the production of decanoic acid). It also has improved memory in rats with Alzheimer’s disease. Supplementing with exogenous ketones may help speed this process up and pass those benefits on to you.
Pruvit claims that taking their supplement will increase your focus and give you more mental energy so every day doesn’t feel like Monday. Better energy production from ketones means more energy for your body, and this may help your brain function better (the brain uses 25% of our energy!).
Again, though, there have been no direct studies on these claims.
My Results from Using Pruvit Keto OS
Now for the moment of truth.
Everyone from so-called “experts” online to Joe Rogan on his podcast (he liked it because he claimed fruit kicked him out of ketosis) told me to use it, but there were no concrete studies or evidence.
I bit the bullet and tried it for myself.
Did it work?
Yes. And no.
I did notice some benefits for sure. I felt better and definitely got more pump in the gym from longer and better workouts. I don’t really suffer from the keto flu anymore, so I can’t comment on that (get hardcore!).
Now Pruvit Keto//OS definitely delivers on most of its promises, but it’s not the cure-all supplement that the company claims.
If you aren’t putting in the effort on your diet or in the gym, you won’t get anything. It didn’t turn me into a laser-focused robot at work either.
I did feel more focused, but that could be because of the extra caffeine in the charged version.
In general, I feel a lot more mentally focused when on a keto diet anyway so that could be why I was so sharp.
Verdict: You can expect an extra bump to your diet and gym results, but I could do without the mild side effects and average taste (more on that below). There are some better supplements out there that have been reviewed on Ketogenic Supplement Reviews.
